About Django on the Med

Django on the Med is a small, focused development sprint event. It brings people together for three days to work on Django and make progress on challenging issues in the core framework and its ecosystem.

Experienced contributors and people making their first contributions are both welcome. The aim is to provide time, shared space and support for working together.

Venue

The sprint sessions will take place at Hotel Plaza Pescara, in the city centre.

We will meet for three sprint mornings, roughly from to .

The venue is very close to Pescara Centrale railway station and the bus terminal.

You are welcome to arrive earlier or stay longer if you would like to spend more time in Pescara or explore the surrounding area. The event itself will take place during the three sprint mornings at Hotel Plaza.

Hotel Plaza is a short walk from Pescara Centrale railway station and the bus terminal. Open the venue on OpenStreetMap .

Accommodation

Hotel Plaza offers agreed rates for Django on the Med participants. Staying there may be the simplest option, because the sprint room is located in the same hotel.

The agreed rates are per room, per night, with breakfast included.

Please mention the booking code: Django on the Med Meeting.

Rooms are subject to availability at the time of booking. Reservations and payments are handled directly between each guest and the hotel.

Other accommodation

You are completely free to stay somewhere else. There are many hotels and B&Bs nearby, including cheaper options and places closer to the seafront.

We suggest choosing accommodation within about ten minutes on foot from the venue, so it is easy for everyone to meet in the morning.

If you are not sure where to stay, contact us and we will try to help with local suggestions. You can also get in touch if you are interested in sharing accommodation, as other participants may be interested too.

Getting to Pescara

By plane

Pescara Abruzzo Airport has direct connections with several European countries, including Albania, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Malta, Poland, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom, with some seasonal variations.

From outside Europe, the easiest options are flying to Rome and taking a direct bus from Fiumicino Airport, or flying to Milan and continuing by domestic flight or train.

By train

Pescara is well connected by fast trains to Bologna, Milan, Turin, Venice, Bari, Lecce and Bolzano, as well as by direct routes from Rome.

From abroad, Milan and Bologna can be reached directly by train from countries including France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, before continuing to Pescara.

There is also a historic railway between Rome and Pescara. It is slower, but offers a scenic route through the mountains.

By bus

There are frequent long-distance bus connections, including direct routes from Rome and Fiumicino Airport, as well as from other Italian cities.

By car

Pescara is easy to reach through the motorway network, including a direct motorway from Rome. Renting a car can also be useful if you would like to explore the surrounding area.

What the days look like

We will work on Django during the mornings, until early afternoon.

The rest of each day and the evenings are available for exploring, socialising, relaxing or spending time independently. All afternoon activities are optional.

You are welcome to arrive before the event or stay for longer if you would like to explore Pescara and the surrounding area.

Afternoon activities

With the help of the local Pescara community, we are planning some optional afternoon activities and informal networking moments.

We would love to show you a little of both the sea and the mountains around Pescara, but we are keeping the details as a small surprise for now.

Community and accessibility

Django on the Med is a Django community event. The Django Code of Conduct applies throughout the event.

If you have accessibility needs that may determine whether you can attend, please contact us and let us know.

Sponsors

We are still looking for sponsors to support the event and help keep it accessible and community-driven.

If your company is interested, please contact info@djangomed.eu.

Looking forward to seeing you in Pescara!
